Progress
It’s easy to get frustrated with a lack of progress. For example, this newsletter only had a few subscribers at the time of this writing, and getting noticed in an ocean of other publications can be a daunting task.
For those who lack the patience to let things slowly evolve, a better strategy in today’s instant gratification culture is to simply focus on the process.
In my case, I can focus on improving my writing. I can also create something which I know is at least helpful to me. As long as I learn and improve my skills, the subscriber count doesn’t matter.
It’s only a matter of time before you start seeing the results. This applies to any new endeavor, whether starting a new business, writing a book, or simply learning a new sport or musical instrument.
As long as you focus on improving, the results will follow, and people will start finding value and taking notice. Distinction requires excellence, and the only way to become excellent is to keep improving.
A side effect of adopting this mindset is that you will be filled with joy along the way. Instead of getting frustrated with the lack of recognition, you can now be grateful that you are able to create something better than you could before.
The solution to a lack of progress is simple - focus on the progress, not the lack.
